I once copied this from a book, can't remember which one unfortunately:
"To preserve your eyes and your eyesight, eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, poultry fish, nuts, wholegrains, seeds and their oils. Opt for orange-coloured fruits and vegetables, dark green, leafy vegetables and avocados whenever possible. Limit your consumption of saturated animal fat to the minimum."
"Reading or writing without adequate light or concentrating on close work for lengthy periods can make eyes unreasonably tired, causing vision to blur and eventually to deteriorate. (happened to me...)
It's therefor essential that we rest them regularly during periods of intentsive eye work. Staring at a VDU for hours on end is particularly wearing on the eyes and needs to be punctuated by a 10 minute break every couple of hours."
"To strengthen the different muscles of the eye:
*Keeping your head still, move your eyes as far to the right as you can without strainging them. Blink, then do the same to the left. Blink and repeat six times on each side. Rest your eyes by keeping them lightly closed for a count of 20.
*Keeping your head still, raise your eyes as high as you can. Blink once, then lower your eyes as far as you can. Blink again and repeat the sequence six times. Now rest your eyes.
*Keeping your head still, look up towards your right eyebrow. Blink and look down towards your left earlobe. Repeat the sequence six times, then rest the eyes for a count of 20. Now do the left eyebrow and the right earlobe. Rest the eyes."
"Palming is a very effective way to rest and relax strained or tired eyes, as the palms create the condition of total darkness the eyes require to recuperate.
*Sit with your elbows resting on a table or on the floor with your back against a wall and your elbows propped on raised knees:
*Close your eyes and cover them completely, with the palms of your hands slightly cupped and your fingers resting on the front of your head. Make sure that you are not pressing on your eyeballs. Remain in this position for several minutes, breathing slowly and deeply."
